All of these services are free of charge and the public is invited. We can help you get in touch with the best support group for you. Call ahead to check on dates and times.

Hospice Bereavement Group

This is a support group for people whose loved ones have died. This group meets every second Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and every third Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the United Way Building, 110 West 10th Street. Hospice also has a support and education program for grieving children.

The Caring Place

The Caring Place is dedicated to children, adolescents and their families who have lost a loved one. It is a safe place with safe people where children and their families can know they are not alone in their grief; share their feelings, memories and experiences in an atmosphere of non-judgmental acceptance; see that what they are going through is normal; and know that hope and healing are possible.

Parents Reaching Other Parents in Sorrow (PROPS)

A support group for people who have a child who has died. They have regular meetings on the third Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 250 West 7th Street. They do not meet in the summer. They also have a newsletter and a library.

Empty Arms

Support group for people who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn's death. Regular meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Liberty Family Practice, 3413 Cherry Street. They have a library and materials to help you explain this loss to children. They also give burial gowns as a gift to parents.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

A support service for people who have lost a baby to SIDS. Gives education, counseling, support and literature.

Widows Incorporated

Information and support group for widows and widowers. Meet regularly to share education, support and prayer the second and fourth Saturday of every month at 9:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 2615 West 32nd Street. They do not meet in the summer months.

Mercy Center on Aging

The Mercy Center on Aging has a support group for those experiencing loneliness, depression, grief and anxiety due to a loss of a loved one. Meetings are weekly and run for several weeks at a time. Any senior is welcome to begin attending at any time. Meeetings are at the center, 444 East Grandview Blvd. Besides the group meetings, there is also one-on-one counseling offered.

Grief Recovery Support Ministry

A support group for those grieving the loss of a loved one. They meet on the second and fourth Tuesday at 6:30pm at First Assembly of God, 8150 Oliver Road, Erie. May come into the group at anytime. Use the door to the left of the main door.

Homicide Survivors Support Group

This is a support group for people whose loved ones have been killed by murder, homicide, or vehicular homicide. Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 125 West 18th Street. There is no cost. Individual counseling is also available for adults and children.

People After Loss from Suicide (PALS)

Support group with regular meetings for those whose loved one has committed suicide. Meetings are the third Tuesday of each month from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Center, 429 East Grandview Blvd. (use rear entrance).

Bereavement Support Group

Meets regularly every third Wednesday of the month at the Community Nursing Services of North East, 2 Gibson Street, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The support group will provide a time and place for those who have suffered a loss to share their experiences, give and receive emotional support and resolve their grief during the diffcult healing period. Helpful literature will be provided on coping, stress management and healthy living skills to deal with the loss of a loved one.

RENEW, a bereavement support group

Meets every month on the third Wednesday at 3:30pm at the Visiting Nurse Association office, 1305 Peach Street. This free community service provides grief education, information and support for anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. It consists of grief education, information, and support for those experiencing the death of a loved one.

Support Group for Widows / Widowers

The visiting Nurse Association of Erie County will host a support group geared specifically to the needs and interests of young widows and/or widowers (under the age of 55) on Monday evening at 7pm at the VNA office, 1305 Peach Street.
